My God, You Know Me – Pt. 2

A Look at Psalm 139

“You know when I am resting or when I am working, and from heaven you discover my thoughts. You notice everything I do and everywhere I go.”
Psalms 139:2‭-‬3 CEV

Years ago I was introduced to the phrase Big Brother. This was before the tv show with the same title became a household name.

Instead it referred to the CCTV cameras which are popular throughout England.

It sort of creeped me out to be honest. The idea that someone was always watching.

Fast forward a few years, and I was now living in England. Believe it or not, my perspective made a complete 360 degree turn.

Suddenly, the idea that someone was always watching comforted me. The impact of the CCTV cameras on solving crimes quickly might have had something to do with it. Nevertheless, I was happy that there were always eyes in the skies so to speak.

Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I am not freaked out by verses 2 and 3 of Psalm 139.

We are told that God knows what is going on with us all of the time.

He knows when we are asleep and when we are at work.

He knows what we are thinking.

I love how The Message [MSG] expresses it, “I am an open book to You;”

God literally knows everything we do and everywhere we go.

“I am never out of Your sight.” [MSG]

How does this make you feel?

Me? I am in awe.

I have no idea how God accomplishes this. My finite mind simply cannot fathom. Especially when I begin thinking of God doing this for every single person on earth.

Thankfully, I do not need to figure it out. I just need to appreciate it.

So I am grateful that the God who

– hung worlds in space

– gives direction to the stars

– performs miracles daily

– answers millions of prayers

– has billions of children to look out for

still singles out each one of us.

He gets to know us on an individual level.

God is interested in the details.

Our names are engraved in His hands. (Isaiah 49:16)

He collects our tears. (Psalms 56:8)

He bends low to hear our prayers. (Psalms 116:2)

I don’t know about you, but I feel so blessed to have a God who is interested in knowing everything about me; who wants to have a real relationship with me.

What more could I ask for?
